New York 4G LTE Speed Test! [AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon]

22 Nov New York 4G LTE Speed Test! [AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon]

Here’s a 4G LTE speed test of AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon in Manhattan, New York.

If you are thinking about switching carriers, here’s my recommendation and thoughts on the best network in New York City:

T-Mobile – Best overall speeds/value especially if you can get their unlimited plan. I am paying $100/month for 2 lines unlimited.

Verizon – Best overall speeds, if it is mission critical and you travel often for business, Verizon is going to give you the best coverage all over the U.S. But Verizon can cost more than others.

AT&T – Not bad but T-Mobile or Verizon would be better if you live in New York City.

Sprint – Sprint is spotty, it’s hit or miss in New York City or San Francisco. Too many promises and under-delivers. Avoid them if you can.

Check out more speed tests I did in the past here:

You are using an LTE only Sprint phone. Just use an LTE Plus device like the S7 Edge or newer.

Cosmote in Athens, Greece can even reach 330 Mbps download (with 3xCA). ☺☺

P.S. Cosmote is the brand name of T-Mobile in Greece.

    I'm really shocked as to how slow America's 4G / LTE is – Australia's getting 100mbps+ consistently.

~20 Mbps is very slow… I think it's just bad place. I can't believe that in U.S you guys call 20 mbps internet speed good… in Georgia, Tbilisi we have 3 major companies and all of them has minimum 45 Mbps speed everywhere, in villages, cities… just everywhere. in capital city LTE-A speed hits up to ~120 Mbps speed on iPhone. 20 Mbps is very good for 3G or 3.5G network… but for 4G, it is lowest speeds.

last time I tested far from capital city, speed was between 35-43 Mbps, using cheapest one.

I can't believe that you think 20 Mbps is good for 2017 year. LTE-A has up to 150 Mbps, not 20 Mbps.

  • Santos Chavez
    Posted at 10:26h, 22 November

You should redo this test using the latest devices–ie, does better hardware, capable of supporting the latest network optimizations (Sprint LTE Plus, T-Mobile Carrier Aggregation, etc etc). Maybe a Samsung Galaxy S7 for T-Mobile/AT&T/Sprint, and a Google Pixel for Verizon?

Though, I always feel that a truly fair test would all be done on the same device. The Google Pixel fully supports Sprint and T-Mobile in addition to Verizon (because of Project Fi) so perhaps that phone is a good all network tester.

Somewhere in Philadelphia or Chinatown (Lower Manhattan), New York City with Sprint is Has Good Speeds

  • Cyberslug1
    Posted at 10:26h, 22 November

These speeds suck. About 7 years ago I was getting 80 Mbps on T-Mobile and then the speed got cut to 45 Mbps after 2 years, the rep said that all calls had to be routed to a government server so that all calls, text and Internet can be monitored and doing that cut the speed. In 2014 my speed got cut to 30 Mbps and they would not explain why. 2015 I was down to 12 Mbps. 2016 1st & 2nd quarter 12 Mbps, 3rd quarter 20 Mbps, 4th quarter speed went up to 75 Mbps.

So you used a phone released in 2014 to test Sprint's network? Yeah that definitely sounds fair lol. Maybe you should try this again with all of them using the same device next time.

Aw, that's cute. I guess you'll be totally blown away if you came to Europe.

And these are just a few tests I randomly did in my neighborhood (I don't even live in a city).
With my previous phone, that couldn't even get 4G+ (only LTE cat. 4) I was able to get results over 100 Mbps on LTE in the big cities (so it wasn't LTE+).

In fact, I don't know if the second link is LTE or LTE+. Could be both over here…
My phone just says '4G' when it's connected to LTE or LTE+…
