Travel Thailand 2015 How to get tourist Cellphone service CHEAP in Bangkok MBK Shopping Mall

26 Jun Travel Thailand 2015 How to get tourist Cellphone service CHEAP in Bangkok MBK Shopping Mall

The first order of business when traveling to Thailand should be to pick up a cell phone data SIM at the MBK. Come along with us as we make our way to the MBK, locate the DTAC center on the 4th floor and pick up a month of 4G data service for just $13 USD a line.

Don’t fall for small time retailers trying to sell you SIM, or worse a “tourist SIM”, these things are an extreme rip off. Even if you are just in Thailand for two weeks or so, I’d highly recommend just getting a month SIM at DTAC, much cheaper and better service.

The basics of getting a SIM are to take BTS to National Stadium, go in the MBK shopping center, take the escalators up to the 4th floor. Avoid all the madness of the little smartphone dealers, hook a left and walk down till to you find the DTAC center on your right. Go inside, pray someone speaks a little English, and ask for month unlimited 4G data SIM. We got quoted 499 Baht a line, but total somehow ended up to be 860 Baht for both, maybe we got a two line discount? It was quite confusing for not being able to speak any Thai and our first day in Thailand. MBK is crazy! Enjoy!

DTAC Service is supreme in Thailand. We traveled all over Thailand for a month and had full bars 4G almost everywhere we went. From the River Kwai Jungle Rafts Eco lodge that had no electricity, to the Koh Phi Phi Don Relax Beach Ecolodge. I was amazed at the service where we didn’t even have electricity!

    THanks for the tip.
You should turn your background music down even more when you talk. It was hard to hear you.

so they didn't give you any problems in getting the 4g data plan as a tourist? I've been doing some research, and been hearing that you can only get 4g data sim if you get a 2year plan and have a work permit/visa. so wandering how you got it without out? I'm interested to know if they still would offer the 4g data now. my son is heading to thailand next month for 30 days too, so curious to see if he would be able to get the same plan you got.

Just got back from Thailand. Ended up going with the AIS version as the store was closer. It was great to have constant internet while our fellow travelers were searching for free Wi-Fi all the time. Even called each other using internet instead of cellular calls. Pretty sure we ended up paying less overall as they went with a travel sim. Tried to tell them, but they knew better and didn't want to hear about our option. My wife, daughter and I were very happy and it really enhanced our trip this year and will use it again on our next trip.

Was trying to find plan on dtac website. Are you able to post a link to the plan as I was looking at getting a sim at the dtac store at the airport but just wanted to point it out on their page. There are a group of us wanting to get one. Been trying for a while to find it.

How did the WinBlu Jr work for wife? I will be traveling with my girlfriend and her mother. We plan on getting two maybe three phones between the three of us since we'll be there for a month. We'll be using GPS quite frequently, taking and uploading pictures, calls and texts. Can you describe the data coverage you guys had while traveling. Would you recommend that phone or do you think I'd be better off dishing out a little more money for something better

Did you use your phone from the US and then just get a Thai sim?
